Tips for female CEOs who are passionate about helping other women advance their lives through their unique expertise.
If you’re tuning in to today’s lesson, I’m guessing you’re ready to inspire the masses and make a major impact by creating your first online course.
I know firsthand how building a passive offer can completely change your business, and ultimately your life. Which is why I couldn’t be more excited you’ve decided to take the plunge into being a course creator!
Before you start dropping all of those golden nuggets of genius, you need to first get clear on what your offer will be.
But what the heck are you supposed to teach to dozens or hundreds of people in your community? You know your topic *needs* to be packed full of value for your ideal customers to buy, but you’re unsure what will best serve your audience’s needs while also being profitable.
Luckily, I’ve got you covered. Instead of going at it alone, we’re going to determine your course topic together…right now!
This process will take less than 10 minutes, and once you’ve completed these three steps, you’ll be on your way to creating your first money-making course.
While it might be easy to stick to a subject that gets you excited, you need to first think about what topic your ideal clients want to learn about. You’re creating a course to impact their lives—keep in mind it’s about them, not you! When you’re thinking about what you should and want to teach, you need to get inside your audience’s head. Figure out what will make them shout, “Yes, that’s exactly what I need!”
Before you start jotting down ideas, ask yourself these three questions:
By digging deep into these questions upfront, you’ll save yourself time and frustration later down the road. So, go ahead and answer these right now. After all, there’s no better time than the present. I’m looking at you, procrastinators!
No, we’re not about to do algebra. But I have created a formula that will help you determine if a course topic best fits your expertise and your audience’s needs.
Sidenote: It doesn’t matter if someone else has already taught the subject you’re considering. Your target audience, methods, and results may be different, so don’t ever let that stop you.
To use this formula, plug the answers in from the questions above:
My [course topic] helps [ideal customer] achieve [desired result/goal] and address [paint point] through my [unique methodology].
Here’s a real-life example from my business:
Sales Funnel Secrets helps online coaches and done-for-you experts create a signature online course and automate sales using my proprietary 6-step Fail-Proof Funnel Framework.
After you’ve filled out the formula, read it a few times to ensure it feels good. Does it get you fired up? Is this a topic you’re excited to teach others? Do you believe in the results your clients can achieve from going through the course? If you answered yes, then move on to the next (and final) step. If you answered no to one or more, go back and figure out what you need to change to feel confident in the course you’re offering.
Congratulations! Within the last few minutes, you picked a course topic you’re wildly obsessed with, and one you think will serve your audience’s needs. But, the keyword here is *think*. While you may feel your idea is enroll-all-the-clients worthy, will your target audience jump at the chance to throw their hard-earned dollars at your new offer?
Before you can officially announce your course topic to the world—or at least to your followers on Insta—you need to get feedback from your most loyal community members to see if your idea will convert. You can hop in Facebook groups you’re most active in or create an IG story to ask for your audience’s opinion.
Use this prompt to help you get the best results:
“If I were to create a course for [ideal customer] to teach them how to reach [desired outcome/goal] using my [unique methodology], would you purchase?”
Ready to hop on the ‘gram and get to work? You got this!
I can’t tell you how excited I am that you’re on your way to creating your first course! While picking a topic to teach may seem daunting at first, it’s easy once you break down the steps and gather the most important pieces of information.
The best part is, these are the exact steps needed when deciding on an idea for any passive income offer. Once you’ve launched your course, you can come back to this blog to figure out what your e-book, video webinar series, or workbook should be about.
