Tips for female CEOs who are passionate about helping other women advance their lives through their unique expertise.
I see you…
Spending countless hours a week crafting the perfect email to share with your tribe only to hear crickets.
Stressed AF because no matter how much effort you put into your email strategy, your open rates still aren’t as high as they should be.
Ready to throw in the towel because you’re not achieving the same money-making results you see from other online entrepreneurs.
And I get it, because I’ve been there too.
But here’s the truth: When executed properly, email is one of the most powerful marketing tools you can use to generate leads, increase revenue, and turn your online business into empire status.
That’s worth not giving up on, right?
Before you call it quits on email marketing (but really, that’s not an option), I’m going to walk you through five of the biggest email marketing mistakes I see business owners making so you can avoid them and reach your goals like the boss I know you are.
Grab a peppermint tea (or mocha latte) and slip into your PJs. Once we’re through with this week’s marketing lesson, you’ll be ready to take on 2021 with a lot more confidence.
Or maybe you don’t have one at all.
On Instagram, I’m always preaching the key to selling a course successfully is to create an opt-in offer. BUT this strategy also rings true for building a list of subscribers that are genuinely interested in your products or services. You can’t create a sustainable stream of income through email (or any inbound marketing method) without a loyal audience base.
If you’re solely relying on the little subscribe button at the bottom of your website, you need to start thinking about a quick and easy opt-in offer you can create that’s compelling enough for your ideal customer to hand over their email address for. You don’t need to overcomplicate it. It can be as easy as a one-page worksheet or checklist. No matter what you create, make sure it’s packed full of value and easy wins.
Think back to the last time you called someone and they forgot to call you back. You assume they’re busy, so you can give them a pass, but then you don’t hear from them in daaaaays. Talk about rude.
Eventually, your phone randomly rings, and it’s them. *cue eye roll* But, you completely forgot why you needed to talk to them in the first place, so you brush off their call. It’s not important anyway, right?
If you’re not sending a welcome email or sequence to a new subscriber, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity to connect with a potential customer when you’re fresh in their minds. When they sign up for your newsletter and don’t hear from you for a few days or longer, they’ll likely forget about you and unsubscribe.
As soon as someone signs up for your newsletter, they should quickly receive an email that showcases who you are and what they can expect moving forward. A warm welcome goes a long way and sets the tone for how they perceive you. After all, first impressions are everything.
Everything in life and business requires consistency to see success.
Want to increase your social media followers? Post consistently.
Want to book more coaching sessions? Show up for your community consistently.
Want to generate more revenue through email? Send emails consistently.
If you’re sending emails haphazardly or only when it’s convenient, your open rates and sales will take a major hit. If it’s weeks between each email, your subscribers may forget who you are, and your random email hitting their inbox will be more of an annoyance than a worthwhile read. And honestly, it’s not a good look for your business. Therefore, your readers are much more likely to hit the unsubscribe button, and we don’t want that!
By showing up in your ideal client’s inbox on the same day and time every week, they will come to expect it and (fingers crossed) look forward to all the knowledge bombs you’re dropping.
Sorry, someone had to say it, and I’m not afraid to tell you the truth in the name of growth!
Here’s the deal: 35% of email recipients open an email solely based on the subject line. This means if your subject line doesn’t grab the attention of your reader immediately, then you’re wasting valuable time and money. This is why spending more than a few minutes on crafting the perfect subject line is critical to see success. If your subscribers aren’t even opening your emails, you can’t deliver value and convert them into paying customers.
Your subject lines don’t need to be overly clever (you don’t want to trick them into opening your email), but you want to hook them with the benefits of why they should spend their precious time reading your content.
Don’t ever send an email for the sake of sending an email. I repeat: don’t. do. it. There’s nothing worse than reading an email, and at the end of it you’re like “Ummm, the point was?” And then you hover over the little unsubscribe button saying, “See ya later!”
You don’t want your subscribers to feel their time was wasted when reading your messages. So you need to ensure you’re providing massive value with every email you send. It doesn’t mean you need to give away all your secrets, but even small tips and tricks can make a huge difference in someone’s life or business. And of course, the more value you provide, the more your subscribers will trust you. When they’re ready to pull the trigger on a big business investment, they’ll likely buy your latest workbook or enroll in your course.
Are you guilty of making one or all of these email marketing mistakes? We’ve allll been there, but the most important thing is to learn what mistakes you’re making and fix them ASAP.
Sometimes even the smallest and simplest mistakes can hinder your success. But generating leads, increasing revenue, and building a business through email is possible with a few tweaks to your strategy. It may take a little extra time and effort, but once you start seeing results, it’ll all be worth it.
